It's clear that Matt has had an illustrious career in the world of ballroom dancing. His achievements as a 12-time undefeated Australian Ballroom Champion and reaching as high as 8th in the World showcase his exceptional skill and dedication. Representing Australia on various global stages; including the World Games, World Championships, World Cups, and Asian-Pacific Championships, further underscores his international success.

Matt's passion for dancing has driven him to travel extensively for over two decades, allowing him to compete against the world's best dancers and continuously learn from top-tier teachers. His decision to retire from competitive dancing in 2014 reflects a transition to a new role — that of a teacher and coach. By imparting his extensive knowledge and experience to the next generation of dancers, including Australian Champions at various levels, Matt has made a significant contribution to the world of dancesport.

As an International Adjudicator, Matt's influence extends globally, having adjudicated competitions in countries like England, Russia, China, Taiwan, Singapore, and Malaysia.

Beyond the competitive aspect, his joy lies in witnessing his students thrive. Matts ultimate goal as a teacher and coach is ambitious yet noble — to retire one day, having trained students who surpass his achievements and elevate the level of Dancesport in Australia beyond what it was during his competitive career. His dedication to inspiring, educating, and empowering his students highlights a deep commitment to the art and sport of ballroom dancing.

Karla Rooke

Latin Instructor

Karla's journey in the world of dance is impressive, starting at the age of 8 and turning professional at 21. Her immediate success, winning the Australian Professional Championships in the same year, marked the beginning of a decorated career.

A significant milestone in Karla's career was achieved in June 2018 when she retired from competition, representing Australia at the British Open Blackpool Invitation Team Match. This accomplishment, considered one of the highest honours for competitive dancers, highlights the pinnacle of her competitive journey.

After spending over a decade traveling the world to compete and train with the best Latin teachers globally, Karla has returned to Australia and is now based in Melbourne. Her focus has shifted to passing on the wealth of experience and knowledge she gained during her extensive travels to her students. For Karla, the process of inspiring, educating, and empowering her students is not just a profession but a source of immense fulfilment as a teacher and coach. Her dedication to helping her students be the best they can be reflects a commitment to the art of dance and the development of aspiring dancers in Australia.
